I'm currently studying for a BA in Learning Technology and Research. Part of the course prerequisite is to create and maintain a web page. I have been meaning to do this for a number of years so having to build a web page, and subsequent site I hope, as part of my Degree course is a bonus. I will use this site basically as a test site for the elements of Dreamweaver MX which I hope to be experimenting with over the next three years. The skills I learn here will be useful in the school environment as Dreamweaver MX is to be taught in the this academic year 2006. So starting off somewhat sedately I hope to expand the site to cover areas of my RAF career and post many of hundreds of photographs I have from my travels around the world - no incriminating ones of course. I hope to post links to sites that visitors may find useful and get other members of the family interested enough to add their own pages. |
I think the latest picture of me is quite flattering (you should see the real me!) the photograph was taken at a Sixth Form Prom hence the rig. I'm 54 years old and a retired RAF aircraft engineer. I live in Wiltshire with my wife June. We have two sons, Stephen recently qualified from Christ's College Cambridge with a First in Natural Sciences and is now traiining to be a Chatered Accountant with Deloittes in Bristol. After pondering careers in the Police and RAF Paul is currently training to be a field engineer with BT having worked with me for a few years.
I'm currently the Network & Resources Manager at Sheldon school and, with a team of six hard working colleagues, look after the computer network, reprographics dept, library and any thing IT related!
Originally from Middlesbrough, where I still have a large family and don't get back to anywhere near as much I would like. I joined the RAF in 1970 as a Boy Apprentice, this was a great piece of good fortune as I loved every minute of my 31 years (apart from the time spent away from June and the boys).
I spent most of my career on Hercules and Tristar aircraft and spent 14 years as a Ground Engineer (sleep in flight, work on the ground until the beast is fixed and ready to fly again - tool box + lots of pidgin English!) visited over 68 countries in those 14 years. I only ever did one overseas tour, nine months in the Maldives in 1972.
During my service I worked with amazing teams of dedicated professionals. Amongst these teams were a much maligned group - young people. These young men and women, many of them still in their teens, bore great responsibilities for those so young. Whilst is true that these probably don't compare with the responsibilities our World War veterans had to cope with when put in perspective the attitude and sense of duty of the young people I worked with was inspiring. It was an honour and a privilege to work with them all. Hark at me being all serious!!
There's a little bit more here if you'd care to read it.
